The Lady Tigers continue to push through the year with wins, as they beat the Clinton Lady Cardinals at home Wednesday evening with a final score of 47-41. “We were a little tired there to kind of start, but I felt like we definitely came out and set the tone early,” quoted Head Coach Blake Howarth. “That set us up for the rest of the game. You could definitely tell that that tiredness set in in the second half with both teams , but the girls have played hard this week and they definitely showed up in the first half and got the work done. That ended with a big win tonight.”

Nevada started out the first quarter with a seven point margin between them and the Lady Cardinals with the score being 16-9 in Nevada’s favor, and that trend followed through at halftime when the Lady Tigers led 30-23. Nevada was tied at one point in the game with Clinton, but No. 2 Clara Swearingen boosted the Tigers up in the third quarter with several shots made to make it 38-32 in the third quarter of the ball game. The Lady Tigers sealed the deal with their fourth win of the season 47-41. Top scorers Wednesday night were Swearingen with 21 total points, No. 23 Maddy Majors with 13 points, and No. 14 Abbey Heathman with six.

The Tigers had yesterday afternoon and will also have this afternoon to practice and only get better, and that is exactly what Howarth plans to do in their offtime. “We're going to be working on rebounding drills on ball defense. We want to be able to set the zone and we have to be able to rotate and move whenever the ball is in the air. Those are some things that we're going to look at the next couple of days to really help us on the defensive end. We're just a step away on defense from getting that click on offense.”

Next Monday, the Lady Tigers will play their third straight home game, this time against the Logan-Rogersville Lady Wildcats. On that game, Haworth stated he doesn't have much information about them, but plans to have a good result at the end of the day. “I do know they will have some key players from last year. They're going to be tough. We're going to have our hands full on Monday, but we wouldn't want it any other way.” That game starts at 7 p.m. at Nevada High School’s Wynn Gymnasium.
