The NEVC Knights and Lady Knights took on the Hume Hornets and Lady Hornets Friday evening at NEVC High School. Unfortunately, they did not have a great showing after the boys and girls boat earned another loss in the year

Lady Knights

The 4-2 Lady Knights started sluggishly in the first quarter, when the score was 18-5 in the Lady Hornets favor, but scored 11 points in the second quarter compared to Hume’s eight points to make it 26-16 at halftime. NEVC doubled their points scored in the third quarter to make it a four point ball game 36-32, but that is all the scoring the Lady Knights would do Friday evening. They had trouble finding the basket unlike the Lady Hornets who went up 18 points. Hume would win 54-32.

The Lady Knights only racked up seven team fouls in the 32 minutes of play at NEVC High School, with four handed to them in the first half and three in the second half. The only scorers for the Lady Knights were No. 1 Ashlee Keith (12 points), No. 10 Crae Hutchison (11 points), No. 24 Liya Bailey (five points), and No. 11 Mackenzie Lee (four points).

“We need to learn to do a better job of keeping the momentum,” quoted Coach Vantellam talking to Nevada Daily Mail. “We played great in the third and were only down by four, but completely dropped the momentum we had. I stress everyday that we have to be confident, because that is a key factor in winning games. We can’t lose confidence just because we are down. Hopefully we will bounce back from this when we play against Montrose/Ballard on Tuesday.”

Knights

Unlike the Lady Knights, the Knights started out strong and were only down by three points at the end of the third quarter when the Hornets led 15-12, but that momentum didn’t last long in the first half. Hume scored 19 more points at the end of halftime compared to NEVC’s six, and the Knights trailed the Hornets at halftime with a score of 34-18. In the second half, there wasn’t much that the Knights could do. Hume racked up the score to 47-28 at the end of the third quarter, and eventually won 61-40 over the now 1-6 NEVC Knights.

The Knights picked up 15 team fouls in the evening, with six of them coming in the first half and nine in the second half. The four scorers for the NEVC Knights were No. 20 Kylan Bachand (24 points), No. 12 Johnnie Bruce (six points), No. 14 Holden Maus (six points), and No. 33 Weston Prough (four points).

“Tonight’s loss hurts because we went into overtime with Hume in the GVVC Conference Tournament in the opening round,” quoted Head Coach Brice Leonard. “We have had several players pick this week and we didn’t have everyone at practice til Thursday afternoon. Some players didn’t even feel well tonight, but they wanted to play because they care about this team. We will try to bounce back from this when we play Montrose/Ballard next Tuesday.”
