Virginia Madeline Moberly, age 100, of Nevada, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022, at Nathan Richard Health Care Center, in Nevada. Virginia was born Nov. 11, 1922, in Richards, Mo., to James R. and Lucy Mae (Lawson) McConnaughey. She was united in marriage to William Bryan Moberly on May 19, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and he preceded her in death in July of 1987.

Virginia grew up in the Richards and Deerfield area and graduated from Richards High School Class of 1939. She lived most of her life in Deerfield and Nevada. Virginia worked at the Vernon County Courthouse for a number of years, Ramey’s Village Market Deli, and at Bob’s Shoe Warehouse until her retirement.

For many years she enjoyed going on trips to Casinos to different states with her friend Barbara Hume. Following her retirement, Virginia continued to work from her home ironing clothes for several families in Nevada.

Virginia is survived by three daughters, Diana “Susie” Pyle, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Connie Heim, Nevada, and Annette Scotten (Dick), Nevada; and one son, Mark Moberly, Nevada; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Blake Moberly; her son-in-law, Max Pyle; and her siblings, Buck McConnaughey, Morse McConnaughey, Gene McConnaughey, Lucille Kash, and Dorothy Pettibon. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested in her name to “Make a Wish Foundation” in care of Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
