The NEVC Lady Knights picked up their fifth win for the 2022/23 season Friday evening against the McAuley Catholic Lady Warriors, winning 50-41. "So proud of the girls tonight," quoted Head Coach Becky Vantellman. "The big thing I am telling the girls is that we have to play a full 32 minutes of a game. That's why when we lose, we lose by 20, because we can keep the momentum in one quarter but not the other. So they did a great job of that tonight. I think that is what the key was for us winning tonight, so I am very proud of them fo that."

The Lady Knights started things off behind against the Lady Warriors, as McAuley led into the first quarter 10-5 over NEVC. McAuley showed strength continuing off in the second quarter, but NEVC was able to rebound back into contention, even though they were still behind McAuley 25-21. NEVC then woke up in the third quarter of the ball game and decided they had enough of playing second fiddle on their home court, and took the lead from the Lady Warriors with a score of 38-29. The Lady Knights sealed the deal in the fourth quarter, and won out against McAuley Catholic 50-41.

Though NEVC won, things weren't always pretty during the game. The Lady Knights had one player out of six that were on the team foul out in the fourth quarter, and two others with four on them. "We need to work on not fouling alot like we did tonight," stated Coach Vantellman. "When you have six girls on a team with one fouled out and two others in foul trouble, it makes things very hard. When you're in that predicament, you tend to not be as aggressive, which is what we absolutely do not want to do. We will definitely work on that."

Next Monday, the Lady Knights will travel to Kingsville, Mo., to take on the Kingsville Lady Tiger. Vantellman says that things have to stay the same in order to win the last game before winter break. "We have to do the same things we did against McAuley Catholic. We have to roll with it, which makes it easy because I am a roll with it coach. There isn't much we can do but play like we did tonight and be aggressive.”
