Nevada Griffons pick up double header win against Chillicothe Mudcats

Tuesday, June 6, 2023

After coming into Monday’s game with a record of 1-4, Nevada Griffons Head Coach Tyler Brown wanted to change the momentum to be on their side. Now, after picking up a double header sweep against the Chillicothe Mudcats, Brown said he felt no pressure coming into tonight.

“I wouldn't say I felt pressure, it was more of a sense of urgency. It's hard to keep guys engaged when you're not doing well. These two games tonight I think are really going to help us lock back in and start taking care of business a little better. We did some things really well tonight that we haven't done well so far.”

The Griffons won game one 8-7 after being tied up 7-7 in the top of the seventh. They were able to score the winning run after No. 13 Clay Palen hit an RBI single, allowing No. 2 Garrett Dennis to score from third, picking up the Griffons second victory of the year. In game two however, Nevada was down 2-4 in the fifth inning, but was able to score seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to get their total up to nine. The Griffons were able to limit Chillicothe to only score one run, winning the ball game 9-6. No. 7 Elijah Bear (game one) and No. 9 Carter Gallagher (game two) were the only Griffons able to hit home runs Tuesday evening, with Bear bringing home a three run home run, and Gallagher bringing home a two run home run.

“I think the guys are matching really well,” Coach Brown said about how the team is working together with only being together for a week, “which is actually fairly common with summer ball. Everyone of these guys have completely different backgrounds, with only one thing that they have in common, with that being baseball. So guys really bond over the fact that they are baseball players and they are playing at all these different colleges across the country. “Somehow they find a way to mesh together really well.”

The Griffons will take on the 2-5 Jefferson City Renegades Wednesday evening, in Jefferson City, Mo.
