Sheldon Panthers took on Dadeville Bearcats, November 17

High school basketball is back in full swing action for the 2023-24 season, and it showed at Sheldon Lady Panthers and Panthers home opening game Friday evening, Nov. 17.

The Panthers hosted the Dadeville Bearcats in action play. The home opener ended with a split.

In the varsity girls game, the home team Lady Panthers came out dominating, outscoring the Lady Bearcats, 12-1, in the first quarter.

The following Lady Panthers scored in the first quarter:

Mariam Lamb, 6 points; Wynsdae Connelly, 4 points, and Britain Korsi, 2 points.

Going into the second quarter, the Lady Bearcats tried to put up a fight and outscored Sheldon, 12-10, however the Lady Panthers still remained on top. The following Lady Panthers scored in the second quarter:

Mariam Lamb, 8 points and Wynsdae Connelly, 2 points.

After halftime, the Lady Panthers exploded with putting points up on the board, outscoring Dadeville, 16-4, in the third quarter.

Scoring in the third quarter were: Mariam, 8 points, Wynsdae Connelly, 4 points, Rylee Goodwin, 2 points, and Britain Korsi, 2 points.

In the last quarter, the Lady Bearcats outscored the Lady Panthers, 7-5, but it wasn’t enough for them. The Lady Panthers took the home opening game with a win, with the score of 43-24.

Fourth quarter scoring was by: Mariam Lamb, 3 points and Wynsdae Connelly, 2 points.

Varsity boys

In varsity boys action, the Bearcats brought their “A Game” and showed the Panthers how they were going to control the game from the start. In the first quarter, the Bearcats put 20 points on the board over the Panthers 11.

The following Panthers scored in the first quarter: Shon Bogart, 4 points; Riley Chapman, 3 points; Aiden Ellifrits, 2 points; and Aiden Bogart, 2 points.

In the second quarter, Dadeville continued racking up the points by making 3-point shots. They outscored the Panthers 16-5.

The following Panthers scored in the second quarter: Shon Bogart, 4 points; and Aiden Ellifrits scored 1.

Coming out of halftime, the Bearcats remained strong and had no problem putting up 3-pointers. The outscored the Panthers 18-11. Scoring in the third were: Aiden Bogart, 6 points; Riley Chapman,3 points; Ryan Godsey, 1 point; and Aiden Ellifrits, 1 point.

In the fourth quarter, Sheldon just didn’t have what it required to get past the Bearcats, which outscored the Panthers, 10-2, taking the win with a final score of 64-29. Scoring for the Panthers in the fourth quarter were Aiden Ellifrits and Aiden Bogart 2 points each.

JV boys

In the JV boys' game prior to the varsity games, Dadeville beat Sheldon, 31-4.
