Dorothea (Dot) Mae Meritt, 95, Nevada, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. Dorothea was born June 22, 1928 in Nevada, MO to Charles Ira and Prudie Ann (Dark) Garwood. She was united in marriage to Orville Eugene Meritt on June 20, 1948 in Nevada and he preceded her in death on August 7, 2005.

 

     Dorothea grew up in Nevada and was a graduate of Nevada High School. She worked various jobs, eventually going to work for two local optometrists, Dr. Ira Spencer and Dr. Robert Hatch where she continued working for 30 years until her retirement. Dorothea left a legacy of strong faith in Jesus, never ending love for her family, and a very strong will that helped her persevere throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, Mother, and Grandmother.

 

     Survivors include her daughter, Pam Ogle and her husband Steve, Nevada; three grandsons, Jeff Addington and his wife Lisa, Rogersville, MO, Kevin Addington and his wife Jennifer, Hernando, MS, and Cole Ogle, Nevada, MO; two great-grandsons, Gage Addington, Hernando, MS, and Jake Addington, St. Louis, MO; one great-granddaughter, Britni Addington, Hernando, MS; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Orville, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Meritt; three brothers, Chester Garwood, Clarence Garwood, and Buford Garwood; and two sisters, Mabel Janssens, and Melba Bowen.

 

   Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Kenny Batson officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada.

 

    The family wishes to express special thanks to Heartland Hospice, Moore-Few Care Center, and On My Own, who all provided loving care to “Mom” and her family.
