Albert Louis Maloy

After struggling with challenging health for the past several years, Albert (Bert) Louis Maloy, 86, peacefully passed away on March 19, 2024 in Oak Harbor, Washington.  Bert was born August 11, 1937 in Prescott, Arizona to Mary Echols and Albert George Maloy.  There he enjoyed a wonderful childhood, along with his brother, William (Bill) Earnest Maloy.  Later, the family moved from Prescott to Phoenix, where Bert attended Sunnyslope High School in its opening year. There he was involved in marching band playing the saxophone, football, dancing, and student government.  He was elected Student Body President for his senior year and was instrumental in installing the high school “S” on a nearby mountainside. 

Bert served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints, where he learned Portuguese in the Brazilian Mission and had many choice experiences including establishing a branch, acting as branch president, in the city of Curitiba, which now has multiple stakes and a temple.  Bert later graduated from Brigham Young University, studying biology.  After working in a medical unit while serving Air Force Reserves, Bert decided to become a physical therapist and attended Children’s Hospital Physical Therapy School in Los Angeles.  During this time Bert married Justine Skousen (div.) and began his journey into family life and a career in physical therapy.  The couple was blessed with four children, Cory, Matt, Wendy, and Marvin.  The family eventually moved back to Phoenix.  There Bert volunteered with the Maricopa County Divers Posse, where he assisted in recovery operations. Being an avid outdoorsman, Bert loved horseback riding, shooting, hunting, boating, scuba diving, water skiing, and fishing.  Using those, as well as many other talents he led local Boy Scout organizations throughout his adult years. 

In 1974 Bert’s family moved to Missouri, where he continued his career as a physical therapist in Joplin and Nevada.  In Nevada, Bert participated in the Lion’s Club where he organized successful fundraisers, making and selling fry bread at city celebrations.  He also served as Bishop in the local congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for several years.  He was often seen riding his motorcycle with friends and bishopric counselors, Ammon Hizer and Jim Keffer, to church leadership meetings.  Bert eventually moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona where he started his own business, Sun Lakes Physical Therapy.  After returning to Missouri, Bert married Doren Ann Wheeler (div.) and enjoyed life in the country, working, riding horses, and attending community events. 

Eventually Bert relocated to Washington state, where he continued his career and married Marge Danskine.  Together Bert and Marge enjoyed traveling as they worked in various locations throughout the west, visiting the beautiful northwest coastal communities, and taking care of their beloved dogs.  When Bert’s health began to decline, he and Marge retired, and Marge actively cared for Bert until his recent passing.  Bert is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill, son Marvin, and nephew Aaron.  He is survived by his wife Marge, his other three children, sister-in-law Diane Maloy, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for Bert will be held at 3:30p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 in the Dry Valley Cemetery, Lawrence County, Wentworth, Missouri.
