Nevadan arrested in burglary case

City police on Tuesday reported arresting a 36-year-old Nevada man relative to a residential burglary attempt at an unoccupied residence.

"A local citizen reported suspicious activity Monday at a neighbor's home in the 200 block of East Sycamore Street, knowing the property owner was out of town," Nevada Police Sgt. Steve Bastow said. "Responding officers searched the area and determined that a door had been damaged in an attempt to make unlawful entry into the home.

"The police search located a suspect, Christopher Leroy Griggs, in possession of burglary tools nearby. During the course of the investigation, officers determined that the suspect was unable to enter the dwelling due to the quick action and intervention of an alert citizen."

Bastow said Vernon County Associate Circuit Court then issued a Class D felony warrant for possession of burglar's tools against Griggs, who was being held Tuesday night at the county jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash or surety bond. Conviction of a Class D felony in Missouri may result in a state prison term of up to four years, according to references.
