Gilbert Eugene "Gene" Brewer, 85, Richards, Mo., passed away on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in Nevada. He was born on Sept. 22, 1923, in Nevada, to James William Brewer and Linnie Jane Simmons Brewer. He married Alice Hays in 1949 in Bentonville, Ark., and she survives in Independence, Mo. In August 1972, he married Everta Jean Armstrong Patterson and she preceded him in death in November 1979...

Nov. 28 An accident occurred at 7:05 p.m., at Washington and Floral, involving a parked pickup owned by Clyde and Kathy Louvier, of Nevada, and a van that left the scene. No injuries were reported. There was a report of a vehicle theft in the 400 block of north Osage, made by Brett Meyer, of Blue Springs, Mo. He reported a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup stolen. The vehicle was later located in Nevada. The case is still under investigation...

Two Lamar residents injured in rollover traffic crash

Two Lamar residents, 14-year-old Cierra D. Crawford and 34-year-old Heather D. Crawford, were hurt in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday, at 11:20 a.m. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 2004 Chevrolet, driven by Heather Crawford, traveled into the median. Dear editor, Just last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released its latest "food insecurity" figures and found that there were 36.2 million Americans that struggled against hunger in 2007. That's nearly one in eight Americans. In Missouri, the numbers are just as staggering. In the USDA report, almost 13 percent of Missourians struggled with food insecurity. The report's numbers do not include those that are facing tougher times in 2008...
