Open burning allowed in Nevada through May 1

Nevada, Mo. -- Open burning will be allowed in the city limits of Nevada, April 16-May 1. During that time, citizens will not have to call the fire department for permission to burn, but a number of rules must be followed. Winds, at the time of burning, cannot exceed 15 mph; garden hoses or fire extinguishers shall be available at all times; all burning must be constantly attended by a competent person until the fire is completely extinguished; the size of the fire cannot exceed 72-by-72-by- 48 inches; burning may take place from daylight to dusk; fire must be a minimum of 25 feet from any structure; no flammable or combustible liquid shall be used to start or promote burning; burning of garbage, rubber, plastics, leather, dead animals, bedding furniture or trash containing food cans, bottles or disposable diapers is prohibited; burning of combustible material in any manner that creates a hazard to property or persons is prohibited; and no person shall burn any material on the public right-of-way, such as a sidewalk.. ...

Suspect escapes from custody but is arrested the next day

A suspect who escaped from police custody on Wednesday was caught again on Thursday, according to a press release from the Nevada Police Department. On April 13, police conducted an investigation into a disturbance at AmVets located at 903 East Subway in Nevada and arrested Tony D. Pike, 38, of Nevada, for the assault of a bar patron. But while officers were concluding the investigation, Pike managed to escape from police custody and fled the scene...
