Forrest C. Clark, 100, of Rich Hill, Mo., died on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Mo. He was the second of eight children born to Audley and Cora Cartmill Clark, born on Aug. 15, 1911, in Rock Creek Township, Kan., on the way to their homestead in Elk City, Okla. ...

A 29-year-old Nevada man faces charges of second degree assault, first degree burglary and resisting arrest in connection with a Feb. 17 home invasion in the 500 block of North Washington Street, Nevada. Police officers got the call at about noon on Monday, and found that a 62 year-old female resident had discovered a burglar in her home. ...

The long-awaited extension of sanitary sewer lines to the Meadow Lane development in the extreme southeast part of Nevada is expected to begin later this spring. Tuesday night, the Nevada City Council voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a $284,467.62 bid from Singer Construction, Aurora, to extend city sewer lines to a group of houses that has never had city sewers since it was annexed into the city more than 20 years ago...

A Walker, Mo., woman was injured in a single vehicle crash that occurred one mile south of Walker on Route C on Monday afternoon. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cassia R. Smith, 41, of Walker, suffered minor injuries when the 1992 Ford Ranger pickup truck she was driving slid off the right side of the roadway and overturned about 2:45 p.m...

The Superheroes of Kindness once again did their part to bring smiles to the faces of those around them. This time, the superheroes donned their capes and brought smiles -- and valentines -- to employees at the Nevada City Hall on Feb. 14. The surprised group of workers gave the superheroes back plenty of smiles and a few hugs, like Sharon Keggler (smiling) and Jennifer Page (smiling and hugging.)...

Zelma Kathryn Barker was born Oct. 22, 1926, in Humansville, Mo., the daughter of Harry and Lilly (Simmons) Gunder. She died on Feb. 19, 2012, at Medicalodge of Butler, Mo., at the age of 85. A celebration of life service for Zelma will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m., at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, with burial in the Greenlawn Cemetery...
