Bonnie Brady, 80, retired personnel counselor and recruiter, passed from this life to the next on Aug. 28, 2013, at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Okla., after a brief illness. She was born Bonnie Louise Stamps on Feb. 28, 1933, in Nevada, Mo. She was the second child to Leo Calvin and Flossie Jane Stamps. She spent a happy childhood in her birthplace and graduated from Nevada High School in 1951, where she formed cherished, lifelong friendships...

From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, Cottey College will be holding a poster sale where people can find the perfect poster for the dorm or living room. The sale will be held in Hinkhouse Center and will feature thousands of inexpensive posters, prints and pictures that are not available anywhere else in the region...

In celebration of the start of a new school year Cottey College will hold a picnic and concert Friday, Aug. 30, at 5:45 p.m. at B.I.L. Hill and Lodge. The concert will feature performer Kirk Thurmond. Thrmond's soulful voice draws the listener into a world where life can be earnestly expressed, and it's OK to not always be completely content. After performing on NBC's "The Voice," Thurmond is currently on he TV show "Troubadour: TX" about Texas songwriters...

Nevada customers of KCP&L can expect a small increase in their electric bills starting with their October bills. The Missouri Public Service Commission recently announced that it had approved a request filed by KCP&L-Greater Missouri Operations Company to change the fuel adjustment charge on the monthly electrical bills of its customers...

By Rusty Murry Nevada Daily Mail There are still plenty of open seats for the upcoming Community Emergency Response Team course set to begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 5, according to Vernon County Ambulance District instructor Mike Hueston. Hueston said he sent out more than 30 letters to people who had signed up for the course during Bushwhacker Days, but fewer than 10 have responded to his letters or phone calls...

There are lots of activities planned for this fall by the Nevada Parks and Recreation Department. Signup is currently under way for youth flag football and will run through Sunday, Sept. 8. This is open to children age 4 through the second grade. The cost will be $15 for pre-K and kindergarten and $20 for first and second grades. Games will start the week of Sept. 16 and run through Oct. 25. All age groups will play at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex...
