Joseph Ray Pitts, 90, Stockton, Mo., passed away at his residence on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. He was born on April 16, 1923, in Arcadia, Kan., to Clarence F. "Jack" and Mary Pearl Pitts. He and Velda Deloris (Davidson) have been together for 48 years and she survives of the home...

HUME -- The Hume Hornets and Lady Hornets basketball teams made their return to Larry Berry Gymnasium Friday night, taking on Montrose on Homecoming Night. Though the Hornets and Lady Hornets entered the night with high hopes -- as all teams do on Homecoming Night -- Montrose ultimately came out of the night as the spoiler, taking both games. Montrose opened the night with a 49-30 win in the girls' game and capped off the sweep with a 65-40 victory in the boys' contest...

By Carly Schooley Special to the Daily Mail Bronaugh High School's varsity boys' basketball team turned back rival Northeast Vernon County, at Walker, Friday night, rolling, 68-27. The Wildcats led from the start, taking a 16-7 advantage at the first break and then, boosting that further with a breakout second period, behind 23 points, while holding the Knights to five. That resulted in a 39-12 halftime difference...

Four basketball games on this week's schedule for Nevada High School were called off, according to athletic director and head boys' basketball coach John McNeley. Three of those games affected head coach Brent Bartlett's varsity, junior varsity and freshman squads, as they were scheduled to play a make-up game at Monett High School Tuesday, but those contests were cancelled. McNeley said that cancellation was due to the fact that Monett had no other dates available to make up a conference game...

BRONAUGH -- Bronaugh's basketball teams swept Humansville Saturday night, with the girls rolling, 54-6, to improve their record to 12-8, while the boys squeaked by, 62-59, to up their mark to 10-9. In the girls' game, it was never a contest. The Lady Wildcats raced out to a 23-0 blitz in the first 8 minutes, dominating the game. The onslaught slowed in the second, but Bronaugh still held a commanding, 12-2 scoring difference to take a 35-2 halftime advantage...

CLINTON -- The All-Tournament team selections from this year's Clinton High School Basketball Tournaments have been released. By the time all was said and done, two names on this year's lists were ones familiar to fans of Nevada High School basketball. Nevada Tigers head coach John McNeley had one member of his team make the list in junior Brandon Barker made the boys' squad, while junior Rilie Good was on the list of girls who earned All-Tournament honors...

OSCEOLA -- The Sheldon Panthers improved to 15-4 for the season with a 61-54 victory over Appleton City Saturday, in the delayed fifth-place game of the Osceola Tournament.
