On Friday, one of them, Patrick Lee, visited the offices of the Nevada Daily Mail. The title of this column was one of the headlines in the April 20, 1861 edition of the Fort Scott Democrat. It is interesting to note that it took at least eight days for this news to be published here in Fort Scott. But, then again that was not surprising because in 1861 there was no "talking wire" or telegraph in Fort Scott so the news of the firing on Fort Sumter was probably carried to Fort Scott from Leavenworth City, Kan., by an Express Rider or courier. ...
