Photos recently shared through social media have some people questioning the integrity of the bridge that crosses the railroad tracks on East Austin Boulevard (Highway 54) in Nevada. Deborah Cathleen Baker, 50, of Nevada, Mo., departed this life and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Cathy was born March 15, 1968, in Albany, Mo., the daughter of Jerry and Sue Beisner. Cathy married Rick Baker on June 24, 1989. They would have celebrated their 30th anniversary on June 24, 2019. The Cottey Comets basketball season came to a close Sunday at Hinkhouse Center, with the Comets falling to visiting Haskell Indian Nations University, 70-55. Nevada High School senior Hailey Jackson has committed to play volleyball at Park University, located just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. Jackson, a two-year varsity starter at the setter position, led the Nevada Lady Tigers in assists this past season, and ranked top three in digs, while helping the team to a 25-win campaign.
