Mary Ola Buckles, age 83, formerly of the Walker and Schell City areas died on Friday, July 18, 2008, at Christian Health Care in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 4, 1925, in Stotesbury, Mo., to Henry Lawrence Bloesser and Kittie Frances Martin Bloesser. On Dec. 19, 1943, she was married to Emmett Lewis Buckles and he preceded her in death in 1978...

Joseph William Gloodt, age 59, of Nevada, died on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at his home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 10, 1948, in Belleville, Ill., to Alvin J. Gloodt and Ruth Ann Akermann Gloodt. Joe grew up in Amarillo, Texas, and attended Paloduro High School. ...

Mike Seitz, speaking for Main Street Nevada, echoed what one of Missouri's favorite sons once said about his death -- reports of its death are greatly exaggerated. Tricia Bridgewater shared the insight she'd seen on a documentary about homeless people as she prepared to join other teams in an effort to tally the number of people without homes in Vernon County at a given time. But they aren't invisible. They count. That's the main reason volunteers set out to count them...

About a dozen volunteers gathered at the Crawford House in Nevada. Their mission: try to identify and count unsheltered, homeless people in Nevada; the "sheltered" ones, too. Unsheltered homeless are those staying in a place "not met for human habitation," as described by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which means sleeping in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, etc...

The Nevada Red Sox fought their way through the zone tournament to advance to the state championships this past weekend. Nevada got off to a rough start in the tournament, losing the very first game that was played to Nixa. But after that loss, the Red Sox came to life, winning four games in a row...
