Mother Nature has thrown a wrench in the works once again with regards to local high school and college athletic events. On Tuesday, the Nevada Tigers varsity and JV boys' basketball teams were scheduled to take on Mount Vernon High School, but heavy snow and blizzard conditions put a quick and emphatic stop to that endeavor. That contest has now been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m., weather permitting...

The Vernon County office of the University of Missouri Extension has announced that it received a "mini grant" to do something related to saving energy, according to program director Pat Miller. Miller used the money to create an easily placed and removed decal for doors that encourages users to "Just slip in" and save on energy costs by not holding doors open so wide or for long periods. ...
