Gary A. Brown, 66, Adrian, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a sudden illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1946, to Thomas Leon and Edna Nadine Brown. He married Donna Young on June 28, 1968, in Commerce, Okla., and she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2012...

Jailers at the Vernon County Jail spent a couple of days last week learning how to handle out of control prisoners during a jail extraction training session. Chief Deputy Shayne Simmons conducted the training first in the conference room of the jail and then in the dayroom and finally in an actual cell where staff members physically removed a fellow jailer acting as an out of control prisoner.
