The host Wildcats defeated the Nevada Tigers JV basketball team by a final score of 42-23 to open the tournament. The Nevada Tigers freshman boys' basketball team saw its first action of the season Monday night, taking on the Tigers of Carthage, at Nevada Middle School. Head coach Shaun Gray's freshman Tigers opened up a 28-14 lead at halftime and ultimately held on to take the victory by a final score of 56-46. The Nevada Middle School girls' basketball teams swept Joplin North Monday, in Joplin. Head coach Danny Penn's eighth-grade squads earned the sweep with a 28-11 victory in the A game, and prevailed in the B game, as well, by a final score of 24-15. Head coach Gail Wilson's seventh graders also won twice, dominating the A game on their way to a 42-2 victory and put on nearly as dominant a performance in the B game, taking the victory by a final score of 30-8...

A weather forecast that includes a strong likelihood of snow in southwest Missouri this week has forced officials at both Carl Junction High School and Carthage High School to make some changes to the basketball tournaments each school is hosting.
